BandAntica La Pifarescha was born from the need and the desire to recreate the style, sound, and fascination of the alta cappella, an ensemble of wind instruments often accompanied by percussion which was widely spread throughout medieval and renaissance Europe. The ensemble incorporates an interesting and diverse selection of instruments: sackbuts, slide trumpets, shawms, pipe and tabor, bagpipes, flutes, recorders, drums, cymbals, triangles, and psaltery. Some of the group's members are also the makers of some of the instruments used. The use of multi-instrumentalists and the different combinations of these instruments offer a highly variable sonority unique to this group. BandAntica La Pifarescha combines this unique sound with diligent research into the styles, performance practice, evolution and characteristics of the instruments, and of the historical-cultural-social context within which the musicians of the period thrived. Thus, La Pifarescha brings back to life the cultural depth and elegance, yet also the festive vitality that made renaissance Europe the vibrant civilization that our culture still feels today. The group's members participate regularly in the most important international festivals, perform throughout Europe, the Americas, and the Far East with prestigious groups (Ensemble Micrologus, La Petite Bande, Sonatori della Gioiosa Marca, Freiburger Barockorchester, Giardino Armonico, The Harp Consort, La Reverdie, Concerto Palatino, Cappella della Pieta` dei Turchini, Hilliard Ensemble, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Musiciens du Louvre, Huelgas Ensemble), collaborate in radio and television broadcasts, and have made numerous recordings (Opus 111, Fonit Cetra, Dynamic, Tactus, Bongiovanni, Stradivarious, Arts, Chandos, Ricordi, BMG, Deutsche Grammophone, Erato, Sony Classical) meeting critical acclaim and international recognition (Choc du Disque, 5 Goldberg, ffff Telerama, 10 Repetoire, Diapason d'Or de l'Annče). |
